Network Performance Workshops
Internet2's End-to-End Performance Initiative (E2Epi) is working to establish a
performance measurement infrastructure across Internet2 campuses and labs, performing analysis of the end-to-end path, and
establishing a normal operational mode where network operations, applications, and the end-user easily can determine network
capabilities and restrictions. In aide of this, they developed a series of Network Performance Workshops to provide hands-on
training in the installation and use of several tools that are used by Internet2.
Purpose of Workshops:
- Help to reduce the increased pressure on network support staff to quickly resolve network problems by giving them tools to speed up the problem-solving process.
- Increase leverage of existing measurement beacons (Global PMP Directory).
- Bring together members of a single GigaPoP, network or application community to maximize network measurement and problem-solving efforts.
Generic Meeting Information:
- Agenda: [Sample Agenda] -- Length: 1.5 days. (Plus, optional prep session before start of workshop for 3-4 hours)
- Participants:
-- List generated as registration process unfolds.
-- Workshop mailing list created via registration and maintained by Internet2 until group decides to eliminate it. Questions to Internet2 technical staff can be posted here.
-- Limited to 30 participants/workshop to ensure opportunities for 1:1 intereraction with the presenters (2-5, based on size of Workshop)
- Presentations: [Most Recent Presentations]
- Documentation: A binder of handout materials is provided to each participant. See also the NP Toolkit for a downloadable version of the tools (Knoppix disc).
- Host Site Requirements: Running Beacons for each of the 3 tools (could be a single box). See also: Host Requirements
- Cost: $200/registrant (varies, based on support by & costs at host location).
Outcomes:
After this workshop, participants will have placed measurement beacons on their campus and learned to use related tests and tools, thus reducing the time required to identify, locate, and resolve many of the most common network performance issues by readily isolating the problem.
Scheduling a Workshop:
To request such a workshop at your location, contact Susan Evett, Performance Architecture and Technologies, Internet2. Also, feel free to read through the Workshop Checklist document; it lists all the expectations for the host campus and Internet2.
