APAN Network Performance Workshop: Tokyo, Japan

Agenda -- Prerequisites -- Presentations -- Workshop Locations

22-23 January 2006
Tokyo, Japan

The increasing reliance on network connectivity in all aspects of campus activities is resulting in increased pressure on support staff to quickly resolve network problems. Through participation in performance measurement networks, GigaPoP engineers, campus engineers and end-users can now work together to resolve end-to-end performance problems. The measurement infrastructure is most effectively leveraged when all paths within the network and servers on the edge support on-demand testing beacons. This workshop brings together representatives from various APAN networks to maximize these networking efforts.

This workshop was made possible through the combined efforts of APAN, Internet2, and TransPAC2 as part of the 21st APAN meeting in Tokyo. There were approximately 25 people in attendance, including representatives from Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, and the US. Material was presented by experts in security, measurement, high-performance networking, and the medical application space (remote surgery). It is critical for groups such as these to work together to achieve the long-term goal of a global interoperable measurement environment.

After this workshop, participants will have placed measurement beacons on their campus and learned to use related tests and tools, thereby reducing the time required to identify, locate and resolve many of the most common network performance issues by readily isolating the problem.

NOTE: We will continue to publish documents, links, and other information so please check here for updates.
